Job Description

The Medical Imaging Nurse functions as a key member of the Nursing and Medical Imaging Team. The position will provide professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care for assigned patients in the Medical Imaging environment.

Skills / Requirements

Essential Skills:

  • Triages and screens patients for MR, CT and Interventional procedures. Obtains an accurate patient history, verifies contraindications and obtains written consent.
  • Provides conscious sedation as directed by Interventionalist. Monitors patient post procedure and documents patients’ vitals and assist with discharge of patient.
  • Start and check IV’s, access and assess indwelling ports, administer medication, monitor vital signs, suction patients, insert Foley’s and help patients with personal needs.
  • Assist with transporting critical patients to and from the Imaging department
  • Assists with interventional procedures in the Imaging department and the surgical department.
  • Monitors at risk patients for contrast reaction.
  • Monitors patients’ recovery and discharge after procedures.
  • Be willing to be deployed to other areas of the hospital if requested to do so.
  • Assists with Stress Echoes, Nuclear Stress tests and administers medication as dictated by Radiologist/Cardiologist and procedure protocol.
  • Provides accurate documentation in EHR.
  • Assists with Breast biopsies as needed.
  • Provides emergency medical attention as needed.
  • Participates in continuing education.
  • Attends Nursing and Medical Imaging department meetings.

Other Duties:

  • Performs other duties for the department and hospital as assigned by the Director of Nursing-Clinical and Director of Ambulatory Services.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a high level of technical expertise and knowledge of radiologic science.
  • Must have a working knowledge of radiation safety as well as occupational health and infection control.
  • Must have Arizona State RN License
  • Current ACLS
  • Current PALS

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Surgical Scrub Nurse experience
  • BA in Nursing
