General Description
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Medical Imaging Manager leads and manages the daily activities for all imaging modalities and support areas. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibilities are managing all day-to-day operations including the delivery of care; staff management; capital, revenue and expense management; equipment oversight; quality and performance improvement management. Position is a working manager position and requires Manager to provide coverage within the department as needed.
Essential Job Duties
- Responsible for all imaging department functions in support of the hospital mission, vision and facility goals.
- Develops, maintains and enforces all Medical Imaging policies and procedures that provide compliance with service and organizational requirements that follow all pertinent laws, regulatory and governmental requirements.
- Hires all imaging department staff and ensures competency. Provides all staff with proper orientation, skills training, education and competency validation.
- Mentors and leads staff to a higher level of performance by exhibiting servant leadership skills.
- Provides staff with coaching to develop and improve problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Performs administrative functions as a super user in hospital EHR, RIS, PACS/VNA, EWS.
- Functions as a department super user and trainer to all imaging staff in hospital EHR, RIS, PACS/VNA, EWS.
- Coordinates with CFO, HIM, Patient Access and Accounts Payable to maintain Imaging Department charge master and compendium. Maintains a thorough knowledge of coding and compliance.
- Manages quality assurance programs and maintains records to conform to all applicable local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains compliance with all Arizona Department of Health requirements in the area of Radiation, Radiation Safety and Licensing.
- Provides leadership in process improvement. Implements and maintains a quality management system. Establishes and assures quality and efficiency standards.
- Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in accordance with the vision and mission statement of Wickenburg Community Hospital.
- Position is a working manager position and requires manager to provide coverage within the department as needed or requested.
- Administers all accreditations through appropriate agencies.
- Analyzes and reports statistical information and acts when appropriate. Manages supplies, assets, equipment and service agreements. Finds best solutions with vendors, suppliers. Maintains communication with hospital supply chain management.
- Serves and participates on internal and external work groups, committees, teams and agencies
- Markets Imaging departments’ services and staff to increase volume and reputation.
- Routinely meets with ordering providers to address any imaging concerns.
- Participates in community events and speaking engagements as needed.
Other (Non-Essential) Job Duties
- Performs imaging procedures in all areas of licensure they have acquired.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all imaging modalities to include protocols and positioning; patient, staff and equipment safety; CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography and Ultrasound accreditations.
- Establishes and maintains communications within the department and with all other hospital departments. Develops relationships with professional affiliations, organizations and others as appropriate.
- Consistently works to reduce costs and expenses while always looking for opportunities for increasing revenue and volume
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, administration, business, or related field.
- Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) through the Radiology Administration Certification Commission preferred.
- Licensed as a Radiological Technologist through the Arizona Department of Health Services.
- Licensed as a Registered CT Technologist through the Arizona Department of Health Services. Additional modality registry preferred.
- Five years of experience in the direct management of a hospital based medical imaging department.
- Maintains knowledge of current industry and legal requirements in areas of responsibilities by reading and attending educational workshops.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the workday; must be able to lift, transfer, turn and position patients weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted or with the assistance of one for a staff member weighing over 125 lbs. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally. May be exposed to communicable diseases. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
