General Description

Oversight of the medical equipment used in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. Ensures equipment used in patient care is safe, readily available, maintained accurately and timely, and fiscally affordable. The Hospital Medical Equipment Program Manager is the person in charge of medical equipment used by the hospital and clinics for the organization. This position is responsible for providing the proper medical equipment for the medical facility either on-site, or off-site.

Essential Job Duties

  • Researches and facilitates purchasing of equipment with the direction of department lead
  • Facilitates fiscally responsible purchases and contracts with equipment vendors
  • Equipment procurement and purchase negotiations
  • Facilitation of standardized record keeping of equipment maintenance
  • Ensuring equipment compliance with regulatory body requirements
  • Facilitation of tracking equipment repairs, secures temporary replacements if necessary, and ensures equipment is returns to service timely
  • Equipment inventory management
  • Equipment storage and transportation
  • Facilitation of monitoring equipment cleaning
  • Facilitation of processes for liquidating outdated equipment
  • Tracks and addresses medical equipment recalls timely
  • Communication with equipment vendors
  • Investigate and follow-up on recall notices for medical equipment
  • Reports extraordinary maintenance problems, user errors, deficiencies, failures, user errors, and trends to the Quality Manager and WCH Safety Committee
  • Maintains and updates equipment warranties and contracts
  • Professional and collegial communication and collaboration with department leaders

Other Duties

  • Attend budget, finance, departmental meetings as needed
  • Key member and participant of the VAT Team
  • Support and foster a collaborative working environment

MINIMUM Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and/or College Graduate
  • Current AZ Driver’s license
  • Current BLS
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience responsible for medical equipment management in a hospital setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical equipment management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory guidelines and standards for medical equipment use, tracking, maintenance, and repair.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills and time management skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to work effectively with other members of the healthcare team
  • Must be able to work flexible hours

Preferred Qualifications

3-5 years experience responsible for medical equipment management in a critical access hospital setting

Physical Requirements/Working conditions

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally.  May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses.  Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
